Student Life
At Coast Mountain Academy we are a highly engaged community that loves to explore, be curious, and learn through experience. We aim to provide a high school experience where students feel connected, supported and willing to take on challenges. There are many opportunities for student involvement at our school. We love to see students building confidence in themselves, pursuing interests and taking on leadership roles. At the core of all our decisions is student well being. We value student voices and create a space for each and everyone to be heard.

House Teams
The House Team tradition is a common feature of independent schools in the English-speaking world. Initially a characteristic of English boarding schools, where students literally lived in their respective ‘Houses’, the modern practice of House membership is a means of fostering loyalty, school pride, peer relationships, and senior student leadership.
Students at Coast Mountain Academy are all members of one of our four House Teams. The Houses draw their names from prominent features of our local geography, and stand for the connection we have with our surroundings. The four House Teams are: Elaho, Sky Pilot, Tantalus, and Skookum.
House teams compete in a year-long points competition to win the House Cup and its honours. At the end of the school year, the team with the most points wins the coveted House Team Trophy and bragging rights.
Students earn points for their House through athletic, academic, and social excellence.
Student Council
The Student Council at CMA is student elected and includes representatives from each house team across grades. The council meets outside of class time and helps share ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and administration.
CMA’s Student Council is responsible for bringing the spirit to student life around campus. They run monthly parliament gatherings, welcome new students in orientation and organize theme days as well as other fun activities throughout the year.
Members of the council work closely with each other and teachers to bring enthusiasm to the school year. Student’s Council participate in leadership and personal development workshops throughout the year.
