Alumni Spotlight – Leo, Class of 2018

Leo graduated from CMA in 2018, and is currently living in what he describes as a “funny old East Van apartment from the 40s.” This year Leo is finishing his BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics at UBC but plans to stay and pursue a graduate degree. Lately, much of his time is spent contributing to academic research, working on niche cutting-edge problems that Leo finds interesting and extremely rewarding.

At the moment Leo is working as a researcher in the Imager Lab tackling geometry problems as they relate to topics in computer graphics. Computer graphics is a particular research interest of his as it lies at the intersection of mathematics, computer science, and visual art. One project he is working on is designing algorithms that construct 3D models from free-hand sketches.

Outside of this, Leo’s main hobby is still climbing. You can often find him in Squamish bouldering into the night on weekdays and sport climbing for the day on the weekend. In his words “I definitely wouldn’t be able to stay as motivated with work without an outlet in the outdoors like climbing.
