Assessment
In keeping with the most current pedagogical research, up-to-date best-practices, and Ministry of Education and Childcare directives, CMA is currently revising our Assessment and Reporting framework.
Exciting new approaches to communicating student progress are coming into practice Fall 2023. For the 2022-2023 school year, CMA will continue to implement the Formative Assessment model that has been in place for several years. The current model is summarized by the following elements:
- Formative & Evaluative Assessment
Assignments and activities that are assessed are either Formative, for developing competencies and understandings from introduction to proficiency, or Evaluative, test-pieces which aim to measure a student’s growth on the learning outcome. Fundamentally different grade scales are used for each type of activity to underscore the difference: Formative feedback keywords are growth-orientated and presume another learning opportunity, while Evaluative scores are retrospective and speak to summative performance. - Open Gradebooks
CMA faculty record assessment scores into our integrated student information system that provides students and guardians with a real-time view of their performance. By accessing the “MyCMA Portal’s” Assignment and Grades pages, all interested parties can view assignment instructions, feedback, and scores. This on-demand feedback technology is used daily at CMA to reduce the role of formal written term reports in the communication of student progress. - Formal Term Reports
In accordance with Provincial requirements, CMA publishes reports at the end of each school term with varying types of feedback on student progress. These are available digitally on MyCMA in PDF format.
